Fiona Dong
Fiona Dong is a Paris-based Chinese artist whose work combines the linear aesthetics of ancient Chinese Han brick art with the vibrant colours of Western Fauvism.
A graduate of ESSEC Business School with a background in finance, she later pursued her artistic practice, studying at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
In 2022, she was the only Chinese artist selected for the Académie de la Grande Chaumière alumni exhibition. She was subsequently recognised as a RedNote “Art Hot Island” artist in 2023 and invited to exhibit at Hong Kong International Airport in 2026.
Introduction to the Series
Leaving behind a career in finance, Fiona Dong turned to travel and painting as a means of rediscovering the world—and reconsidering the life she once knew.
Shanghai, where she worked at PwC, embodies the contradictions of her former existence: the relentless rhythm of the metropolis, the promise of stability, and an underlying sense of disorientation. In contrast, Montparnasse in Paris marks the beginning of her artistic awakening, a neighbourhood shaped by generations of artists, including Sanyu, Wu Guanzhong and Zao Wou-Ki, whose legacies continue to resonate with her own journey.
Through Shanghai by Night, La Grande Chaumière and Café de la Rotonde, Fiona navigates the space between certainty and freedom, memory and possibility—where past and present quietly converge.
Her paintings become a quiet reflection on the paths taken and those left unexplored.
